prank vs. crank

for this week I thought it would be interesting to see how by switchimg one letter specifically  P to C in this instance can change the entire function of a situation. now when i was younger i haerd people say prank call or crank call alot but i never really got if there was a difference between the two or if somebody was just mispronouncing the phrase. so after looking a few things up this is what i came up with.
While a prank call is a practical joke made by a child or childish person, usually out of boredom. A crank call is a type of prank call where the person is old enough to have better ways of entertaining himself, or is motivated by pathology of some sort. There's some humor involved in a prank call though not always for the person targeted. Crank calls aren't meant to be funny, and usually they're intended to be scary or to antagonize in some way.
A kid making a prank call will target no one in particular, while a stalker making a crank call usually knows who he's calling, and doesn't like that person.

everybody knows the cliche prank calls: Prince albert in a can, refrigerator running, etc. the list goes on these are very childidsh things that can be annoying but aren't dangerous, while a crank call is more like-

Example : Crank Call

refreshing isn't it

http://collegestudytips.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/1.jpg
for my whole life everybody around me has been saying drink water it's good for you it revitalizes you but honestly i hated drinking it because the taste was awful i for a long time i couldn't figure out why so i did a little bit of research and i think it worked out nicely. because when shopping for water i didn't know the difference.

well first of all there are many different forms of bottled water and they may all qualify as H2O, but they are not all suitable for the same purposes. now while i thought that i didn't matter whether you use distilled or spring water for what ever purpose because it seemed the same to me it turned out i was abit wrong, now granted i am not an idiot i'm not gonna drink sea water if somebody was thinking that.

now while, Spring water is generally used for re-hydration, cooking, and beverage making ,and while it may be more expensive than other forms of bottled water the taste of natural spring water is said to be superior to standard tap or drinking water,it may be distilled water enhanced with minerals. Spring water is rarely used in household applications such as steaming or sanitizing because the natural minerals are not removed during the bottling process.

Distilled water however is ideal for steam irons and cleaners because it does not have the minerals and metals which cause rust or clogging. Some people also prefer to wash clothes in distilled water because it is considered purer than tap water or even spring water.

just a lil something to help

With elections coming closer and closer i thought that this would be fun to discuss for this week's post. In 2004 Citizen Change, a political service group, founded by music mogul P. Diddy (puff daddy, puff, swag, diddy), and backed by Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey and 50 Cent. The aim of the group was to get a younger generation of people to vote. I won’t get into too much detail with the group because the thing I want to focus on right now is the logo on the campaign shirts. The shirt reads the words “vote or die” those words on their own are very powerful , it gives this immediate sense of urgency towards voting  in just three words. The shirt highlights the word or and the exclammation point in red making it more dramatic, almost to stress that vote or die could become a legimate choice in the future.

In a world where horrible movies run rampant one hero can make them sound great it's (insert b-list actor) in the voice over artist. i know it is a bit cliche but it is very much true that a good voice over can make a movie trailer sound way better than it actually is. i know i've walked into a movie or two that i thought would be great because of the trailer and it turned out to be horrible. There have been studies in relation to speech tone and memory where certain voice types last longer in memory than others films take advantage of these voice's so that audiences will remember their trailers longer than others. A good voice over with the right music can make the thought of the movie stay with you for days like one really annoying song. Sound can trigger certain emotions also so with the right voice over artist feelings of excitement, joy, sadness, fear, etc. can be created depending on what genre of movie the emotion suits best. in fact being a voice over artist is a hard profession because even though there are hundred to thousands of people who get into it only- about 5 people are making serious amounts of money from it

below is a few examples of movie trailer voiceovers

i never thought i would see one of these posters, because for a while i really forgot about this game but after seeing it again i just have to talk about it. Just on the record Grand Theft Auto is one of the greatest series of video games and i don't think anyone would disagree with me on that.Especially to anyone who as a kid shared my hatred for the notorious rating laws .while looking at this poster i did realize a bit of rhetoric being uesd however and what i'm referring to is obviously the characters.the poster has basically every steryotype criminal known to man you have your classic mobsters, gangsters, yakuza, goons, psycopaths, junkies, hookers, every single cliche bad guy you can think of and they are all staring at you. Trying to give this feeling of danger and intimidation. Which in my opinion is basically taunting you to buy this game, and as a kid i can say i got it! with some older help of course. in small white letter's that draw the the eyes attention the word's " A Mafioso Masterpiece" are written and it gives the idea that the game is close to perfection again making kids who aren't allowed it want it even more.basically what i'm saying is the concept of violence in video games makes them more wanted and GTA does a great job throwing it out there without really  giving all of it away.

For this week I was kind of in the mood for another look at rhetoric used in commercials, but I changed my mind half way through and decided to focus more on the product itself. I was looking at a container of dial for men at a Walmart and saw at the bottom was a little blue strip that drew my attention with the words pheromone infused. Now after further inspection of the back of the bottle the words pheromone-infused come up again with the addition of the phrase Need we say more. So after really thinking about it I came to the answer yes, yes you need to say more. The hope is that from hearing that this product contains pheromones the consumer assumes that it works well and the idea that the soap contains pheromones leads to the belief that it supposedly attracts the opposite sex, which is all good in a sense but the lack of explanation seems really misleading. The whole time I couldn’t help thinking what types of pheromones are being put in, are they coming from plants or animals, how much is being put into each container and how long does it last because “surprisingly” that was not expressed on the container. I had other though like what part of this organism were these pheromones extracted from because certain parts I don't want on my skin and my most pressing question if these are pheromones from different creatures do they even attract human women, because I don’t know about you but I don’t want stray animals following me back to my dorm room.

http://www.altweeklies.com
so this week i saw something on television that sort of just peeked my interest. i saw a large number of commercials for different medications and the thing that seemed to catch my attention the most was the phrase "the most doctor recommended medication" and  so i decided this would be fun to poke at a bit for twenty minutes. the thing was that all of these commercial seemed to run the same sort of routine. they would give their product say it was the most recommended, tell you to ask your doctor about them and then give you a long list about the many worse things that might happen from you taking their product. i don't know if this thought ran passed anybody else but maybe just maybe these companies could have become the most recommended because after somebody sees the commercial they ask their doctor for it not because it's the best thing out there but because it's the first thing they see. when you see the phrase doctor recommended the natural assumption seems to be it must be safe or it must be really helpful because doctor's are professionals, but no offense not every person that dons some scrubs is cut out to be a doctor. basically what i'm trying to get across is that if your going to put your faith in these products that you don't really know anything about except for what your physician tells you research them yourself and ask more than one doctor a second opinion never hurt anybody.

http://dariavallentiny.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/AirplaneOxygenMasks-1161.jpg
Well, so after much thought for a second i couldn't really think about what i wanted to discuss but after some time i decided to talk about the rhetoric of the oxygen safety mask. if your confused i will explain if you've ever been on a plane then you have probably seen the caution sign's on it that tell you what to do in case of a plane crash such as the one to the right of this post. As you can possibly tell there is something off putting about this photo ,yes the woman in this photo is way too calm and organized. I don't know about you but in a world where people get trampled and riots break out during black friday for 20% off at a Walmart, can someone really slowly fasten an oxygen mask to themselves and their child while not goin completely off their rocker in a plane diving towards the earth. Basically what i'm saying is the istructions give the illusion that what's happening isn't a crisis in an attempt to calm passengers down and give a sense of normalcy and relief to an otherwise bleak situation but that in my opinion is certainly not the case.
